Inspiring and influencing leaders to commit, collaborate and take action to improve safety culture through awareness, education, promotion and recognition leading to safer construction workplaces in Ontario.
Our vision is simply to inspire leaders to be Health and Safety Champions.
In September of 2015 during a breakfast between Clive Thurston – TCA President, Jason Ball – Ball Construction OGCA Chair, David Frame OGCA EVP and Craig Lesurf, President of Gillam and OGCA Safety Committee Chair in New Orleans the inception of the League of Champions was born out of support of safety and safety culture in the ICI Construction industry, a non-profit aimed at improving the workplace for vulnerable workers, and the idea of growing the safety message in the construction industry in Ontario. Early in 2016 the League was launched by the Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA) in support of safety and safety culture with the LOC’s mission of inspiring and influencing leaders to commit, collaborate and take action to improve safety culture through awareness, education, promotion and recognition leading to safer construction workplaces in Ontario. The jersey idea was inspired by Rob Ellis of MySafeWork who wore a team Canada jersey and Craig Lesurf looking for a rally cry to draw support and inspiration set out to design a jersey with a patriotic element and after several handmade prototypes the now familiar LOC white jersey with red leaf emerged. Joining the League of Champions is a commitment on the part of companies to safety and safety culture and when workers sign the LOC Jersey as a pledge that they are going to work safely every day and they will make sure that those that work beside them also work safe so that everyone goes home safe and sound at the end of each and every day! When you sign your family name it is typically on a contract, that is the commitment we look to obtain. This is the start of a commitment to safety culture on behalf of companies and workers.
